Program Overview

Mission and intent.

Mission
  • Develop confident and competent volunteer audio engineers
  • Foster a collaborative culture between Worship and Production
Intent
  • Promote excellent and consistent live sound across all campuses
  • Promote a distraction-free environment for people to encounter, worship, and respond to God
  • Encourage good stewardship of God-given talents, community, and personal growth
How the Program Works

Three steps.

  1. Interview & audition

Every new production volunteer interviews with one or more production staff (the same model as the Worship Team interview process). Every new volunteer audio engineer completes a Virtual Sound Check audition to assess current skill level. The result determines the track: Accelerated or Conventional.

  2. Weekly training rhythm

Instructional videos assigned during the week (practical walkthroughs filmed on the dLive, with optional theory deep-dives in the self-study library), in-person discussion of that week’s topic on Thursday or Sunday, and hands-on training on that topic during pre- and post-service.

  3. Classification

Volunteers are classified A2, A1, or A1T based on demonstrated skill.

Classification

What each rank means.

RankWhat it means

A1 — Audio EngineerUnderstands and executes all fundamentals of live sound. Can run a Line Check, Sound Check, RXL, and live FOH for a service with minimal oversight from an A1T.
A1T — Audio Engineer & TrainerUnderstands and executes all fundamentals plus common problem-solving and advanced mixing techniques. Able to teach A2s audio fundamentals and problem-solving.
